Why renovation dust needs its own service
Drywall sanding, tile cutting and demolition produce very fine dust that settles on every horizontal surface and keeps resettling for days. It collects inside cabinets and drawers, on top of door frames, in window tracks, behind switch plates and inside HVAC grilles and radiator covers. Wiping once usually just moves it around, so post-construction cleaning works in multiple passes: dry dust removal first, then detailed wiping, then floors last.
We also deal with the residue contractors leave behind: paint specks on fixtures, sticker and tape residue on new windows and appliances, grout haze on tile and footprints of dust through hallways. We do not remove heavy debris, leftover materials or construction waste; that should be cleared by your contractor before we start.
Fine dust can scratch some finishes if it is dragged across them, so we remove loose dust before wiping. On new stone, wood floors and fixtures we use products suited to the material; if your contractor or manufacturer gave you care instructions, pass them along.
Renovations in NYC buildings
In co-ops and condos, renovation work often comes with an alteration agreement and rules about work hours, elevator use and protecting common areas. Building management may require vendors to provide a certificate of insurance before entering. Tell us about your building's requirements in advance so the cleaning fits within them.
Brownstone and townhouse renovations bring their own challenges: dust that travels between floors through stairwells, original woodwork and plaster details, and radiators or old ductwork that hold dust long after the work ends. In lofts and open-plan spaces the volume of air means dust settles on high ledges and beams; tell us about ceiling height and anything that requires a tall ladder.
Timing and what to expect
Book the cleaning after all trades are finished, including painters and anyone doing final touch-ups. If work continues afterward, new dust will settle. For larger projects, some clients book a rough clean when the main work ends and a final clean right before move-in.
The time and number of cleaners depend on the size of the space, the type of work done and how much dust is present; we confirm this in your quote after you describe the project or send photos. Once the space is in normal living condition, regular cleaning or a periodic deep cleaning keeps it there.
